Federal Standard 595 (aka, Fed Std 595) describes colors used by the United States government for procurement. This full chip set provides 650 color chips, 3" x 5". Each individual chip has its own protective envelope. Chips are suitable for color matching and quality control inspection purposes.
Your shipment will include both the original 650 cards of the Full Set and a second small box with a Supplemental Chip Set. Due to concerns about the original printing of some chips, the government reprinted 40 chips in July 2010: those are the Supplemental Chip Set. Use the 40 chips from the Supplemental Chip Set in place of those of the same code in the Full Set. The government suggests destroying the original 40 from the Full Set to avoid confusion.

CAUTION: Improper handling or continual exposure to sunlight, chemical fumes, etc., may cause color of the chip to drift. Color chips should be kept in envelope when not being used for color comparison. Users should exercise extreme care to protect the color chips and to minimize drift.

The first digit of the color number indicates the color at a level or degree of gloss.
